JANE BOUTWELL STUDIO
Beauty. Truth. Goodness.
Called to Create
From mud pies in the backyard as a child to clay on the wheel as an art student, Jane Boutwell's creativity has always been tactile, visceral, and deeply in touch with the earth. Her sense of rootedness connects her to generations of creative women in her own family and to the folk art traditions of quilt-making found in her southern heritage. Born in Macon, Georgia, Jane absorbed many of the various forms of making she saw around her. Drawn to ceramics and painting, she earned her BFA at Auburn University. Jane's art practice has evolved through years of designing one-of-a-kind quilts as well as landscape and floral design as she sought to create beautiful environments for her family (of four young children) as well as her friends. As she has re-discovered her need to be expressing directly through studio art she is in a new phase of her artistic journey. She recently attended an Arrowmont painting workshop as an assistant to instructor Emily Leonard, as well as a landscape painting class at Emory University taught by veteran artist, Wayland Moore.
